Continuing the innovation journey

Continuing the innovation journey

My name is Paul Hobcraft.

I simply enjoy innovation in all its forms. I got ‘hooked’ twenty years ago and since then have increasingly focused on innovation until it is 100% of my business thinking and activities today across different social, business and institutional needs.

I work as a transition advocate for innovation, ecosystems and the energy system.

I relate content to context to give greater knowledge and build the transition narratives we are all undergoing.

I research across much of the need for innovation, in society, business and institution need looking to develop novel innovation solutions and frameworks where appropriate. I provide possible answers to many issues associated with innovation, ecosystems and within our energy systems that are transforming our everyday landscape, with a range of solutions that underpin my advisory, advocating, coaching and consulting work at www.agilityinnovation.com.

The aim is to support the individual, teams, and organizations, in their innovation and transition activity, applying what I have gained in experiences and knowledge, to further develop core innovation understanding, so clients can achieve positive and sustaining results from their innovating activities.

The value for you, so often ‘time-starved’ is you can seek out suggestions, thoughts, and insights around innovation, ecosystem building or how the energy transition is impacting you. by tapping into my depth of knowledge, built on research and practice.

My primary role is advising and coaching within these areas, where the principal focus is on building innovation capacity, competencies, and capabilities within innovation practice that can apply to your needs.

I am a frequent writer on innovation, digital platforms, and ecosystem understanding, offering informative, creative and knowledgeable insights for the broader understanding and impact they are having in changing times.

For me, innovation needs to enter the DNA of our organizations and our own individual make-up. In my writing, I try to offer a range of thoughts on different aspects of innovation to help each of us to understand this subject better.

Innovation as a source of our growth fascinates me.

I hope I can share some of this passion with you here on this site as I search for the DNA make-up of innovation.

I’ve written previously on my own personal finding our true purpose and summed this up with:

yes, I’m aiming for transformational in results, from my own learning and understanding, so as to relate these into clients’ challenges and problems, yet I’m often reminded this evolving practice of innovation is equally applying more and more to my own emerging innovation design.”

What I do is to deliberately set out to help grow and extend the body of knowledge on innovation. Having this 100% focus I do believe does provide the necessary additional intensity of focus needed for innovation success that someone who specializes in it can only provide.

In referring to two websites: www.agilityinnovation.com and its related sister company www.hocaconsulting.comyou have a deeper understanding of my innovation approaches, solutions, and focus points.

Recently I set up a dedicated site for exploring the components of our ‘fitness’ make-up for innovation, outlining my working towards an approach that can model what is those aspects that are needing to be more dynamic, ones that significantly improve innovation performance and impact by focusing on building the capabilities and capacity to meet future innovation needs. This dedicated site is innovationfitnessdynamics

I have fully taken over fully the combinations of platforms and ecosystems through a new dedicated website ecosystems4innovating . This was after an initial collaboration with Jeffrey Phillips. We have been exploring and developing the ‘connected’ issues of the power of ecosystems, platforms, disrupting technologies and the customer experience from their new behavior and focusing on their specific needs, in driving new innovation growth through digital transformation, through a new dedicated website purposely set up to explore this move towards a new innovation era that I believe is emerging from these ‘forces’ of change.

Just recently I really felt this ‘compelling’ need to separate my work on the energy transition being undertaken in the world to ‘house’ my posts in this. This new site of innovating4energy explores the energy transition, the need for smart infrastructure and new solutions where digital plays an increasing role

As for my personal journey- well, it is a road well-traveled

How I got to this point I can only say it has been varied, challenging but full of fun and learning. This has taken me to live and work in Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Malaysia, Switzerland, the Netherlands, USA, Hong Kong, Australia, and recently twelve years in Singapore. Today, I live in Switzerland, my adopted home.

I’ve worked in a number of senior positions within global corporations, in global, regional, country and functional levels tackling different challenges that have included start-ups. turn-rounds and significant re-engineering and operational design or automation across a global network.

The work has been varied, the challenges diverse coming from starting up different businesses in emerging markets, turning difficult ones around in challenging economic and market conditions more than once, re-engineering a global organization over a three year period choosing to live permanently out of a suitcase (or two) for months at a time in each of the major global locations as the best way to deliver the changes,  and finally simply accelerating companies, getting them through to critical mass points, for achieving their positive contributing footprint, within the world.

In 2000 I went into my own business of consulting and advisory work, firstly based in Asia and then in recent years, based in Switzerland

Today my home is in Switzerland

After I moved to Ticino in Switzerland, from Singapore I am spending different times between the two regions, although Europe holds an increasingly more central role. All the time my focus is on innovation and many of the related topics that move it increasingly towards a core within organizations.

Innovation understanding does ‘simply span’ globally and I have been fortunate on building on the foundations initially laid down in Asia and advanced while in Europe through an ever-expanding network of collaborators, knowledge, and insights.

My present focus is spent building this innovation practice, providing advice on building the right capabilities and capacities, into organizations or individuals, wanting to advance on what they have already in place; to improve, accelerate and develop their innovation competencies and understandings of the ‘fit’ of innovation.

My further work takes me into ecosystems and platforms and this focus has been separated onto a dedicated site of: https://ecosystems4innovating.wordpress.com/

Today, much of my research work has taken the broader area of innovation and focused this down increasingly on the Energy Transition the world is undertaking. Climate change, environmental degradation make solving energy through innovation as a top priority. I want to be part of that through influencing, advocating and shaping solutions

I have been involved with the Siemens Influencer Community since July 2018. I have an engagement in the global influencer program of Siemens AG, now called SIEx. This is NOT an endorsement of SIEMENS AG in product and services.

It is in my role to encourage SIEMENS AG to think more openly and engage in a wider community. I am independent in my work in this wider community and provide a unique set of insights, according to those willing to listen. “To challenge constructively their thinking” I feel is important.

In any shaping or influencing, I believe that I can certainly contribute given the opportunity and voice.

I believe I can contribute to the wider innovation community we are all part of, to support the innovation activities we all need to undertake, increasingly through technology and the digital aspects that are increasing innovation even more than ever.

Through my advising, coaching, writing and mentoring on innovation, as well as through my ongoing consulting work, to stimulate others as we all equally gain fresh insights and knowledge from these collaborative exchanges.
